One great big present

As you see from the title of my Facebook event (facing the Holidays Solo at https://www.facebook.com/events/317495455431238 ), I am facing the holidays pretty solo. I have had some people drop by the Rose studio, my living working space. And now I am taking time to tidy up. I bought myself one great big present to put under the tree. It took a lot of courage and thought before I chose it. ANd there it stays on my holiday display waiting for Christmas morning to unwrap. And I have been raiding the thrift shops for holiday season stuff. It is at this time I find all sorts of great colors and fabrics that I can wear during the year. As an artist color, texture and pattern are very important to me. My funds are meagre so I have to get stuff from vintage sources because the stuff I like, if it was bought new, would, for the most part, be very expensive. thank goodness people don't like to throw out quality merchandise. (I don't). And thank god people like to celebrate with ...

Returning the Art to their Place: Gallery renovations. Update May 15.

I did some dictation straight into the Iphone.  I don't have the audio transcript but please feel free to enjoy the text below. This is Kathy (K.F.) Fabian speaking to you from the residence. The Blue Corridor Gallery has been freshly painted and has been out of commission for 15 days now approximately. By request of the administration, I am starting to place the Blue Corridor exhibit. The exhibition pieces have been put in storage in several places in the residence. Bright and early this morning I started to place the pieces that were on the floor in the spots I would like the nail to be hung. I am having breakfast now and when the meal is finished I look forward to placing the rest of the works and they have been hidden in my locker. I have to go fishing for them now. The plan is to put a nail in the wall in each potential place for a work of art. I figure to get my art out early so that I could have my choice. I will be having a selection of places with good lighting varie...

New Coat of paint Update June 1, 2017 Summer

LInk:  http://valuablegallery.blogspot.com/2017/06/update-june-1-2017-summer.html Big Changes with the Art Fabian Gallery.  Because a magnificent new yellow coat of paint has dramatically changed the Valuable Gallery a change of name has become appropriate.  Henceforth instead of calling the outer gallery the Blue Corridor Gallery we will be referring to it as the Sunny Gallery.  We started putting up our exhibits ad hoc. Since we are functioning solely we have had very little expertise as to how to choose images from the web so as not to hassle with copyright issues. It has taken a fair amount of time to find the filter application int the Bing.com site.  Finally, we have found a site that filters out problems with the copyright. If we choose our images within the public domain we are free to share, use commercially and modify these images. And the creative commons filter has a section in which the artist permits us to do all three. Pinterest has more image...

Thanks for the TV suggestions Emily and ArtMoi

Simon Schama's Power of Art - Topic Hi Emily, I am glad to hear from you and ArtMoi.  I am entering information much faster now with the Bulk uploader and thank you very much for the suggestion.  I also was very interested in the viewing material that you sent me.  I put Hi Emily, I am glad to hear from you and ArtMoi.  I am entering information much faster now with the Bulk uploader and thank you very much for the suggestion.   I also was very interested in the viewing material that you sent me.  I put  Simon Schama's Power of Art – Topic on my featured reading list on YouTube immediately. I create films and publish them on YouTube.  They mostly deal with issues concerning my life as an artist.  YouTube has a groovy little program that allows community input for the creation of subtitles and translations for my films.  (They still remain unedited).  I have someone who translates in Japanese who is inter...

A Welcome to ArtMoi and I update tem on the Studio Exchange

ArtMoi.me  < emily.glover@gosquared.email >  wrote: Hi Kathy! Real person here I just wanted to welcome you to ArtMoi and see how you are liking our new Studio Dashboard so far. If you have any questions about Studio or any of our other services feel free to message me anytime! -Emily - Emily Glover ArtMoi.me Here's my reply: Dear Emily, I am glad to hear from you. Thanks for ArtMoi your art inventory app.  I am working on adding my stuff to it but it takes a long time to load it.  (That's not a big deal). I will be using it more intensively soon.  One thing that is problematic is that I can only enter a few things at a time.  I like all the information that you can enter on the form but again it takes a long time for me to do it one by one. Adding to the time factor is that I am now in the process (only) of creating my reference numbers. I have a bigger machine that works faster in the library but I can't' get th...

vg46 Production Notes: summer 2016

As for more long term production goals I will be going for a plan of maintenance rather than growth. In others words I will concentrating on the certification of my already existing body of work (this is instead of concentrating on creating new work).    I have found a program to watermark my work rather easily.  My machine saves the document with a really long number. It seems to be a registration number which means that the work would be documented with this company, it is a Windows app and that is all I know about it.  So I don’t know what I should do. If I should maintain a file with the registration number or not. Meanwhile I can use the program rather easily to identify my work.  This brings me to another issue. Should I use my name or an email? I have to think about it.  Making a watermark the same as I am familiar with is something that to have to think of as well. To me a watermark is very transparent and actually takes up all the space of...

vg45. Financial Plan. Summer 2015

Financial Plan The financial situation still remains pretty much the same. So far no sales. Possible directions I will going in the foreseeable future involve the payment of small fees.  I have been checking out the art resources available to see what to do to upgrade the situation.  RAAV.Org REGROUPEMENT DES ARTISTES EN ARTS VISUELS DU QUEBEC has increased their membership fee to $120.00. InfoEntrerpreneurs said that they have a legal clinic but there is a fee of $65.00 an hour.  I have also contacted Yes (Montreal Youth employment Services). They have services available for entrepreneurs and artists of all ages but I must attend a workshop first.  Then I can access their legal and counselling clinics if I pay a onetime fee of $30.00.  Finally I noticed that I have a pretty thorough online backup of my photographs with Sony PlayStation but the line that says the name of the photographer is always left blank.  So I will be checking out how muc...

vg44. The myth of the Avant-Garde.

One of the issues that concern me at this time has to do about the time that my art begins to attract a good amount of attention and fetches a good price. Lets call it:  The Myth of the Avant Grade The point of Discovery An artist must create a body of work in order to be called an artist.  Thus a considerable amount of work exists before someone’s work is discovered to be valuable...  So the worth of a work of art, say a painting can change in an instant. One second the painting is worth nothing since the talented artist has yet to be discovered. It is the point of discovery that will change this undiscovered worthless body of work into something of value.   The Danger that comes with the point of discovery This presents a danger to the artist in a poor place and to the evaluators of his/her work. The art has barely been discovered and has not yet left the community hub.   A poor community is obscure so very few people know about it yet (even th...

V37. Finding the Best Direction for My Creative Outlet

I have a creative streak in me.  I find it releasing to create art.  And if I create art I will amass more objects.   How do I find an equilibrium between creating art and not amassing clutter? At the same time how do I amass art for sale(merchandise) and publicize my production?  my  As I write these words I begin to look once again to the artistic form of collage. I can start a line of collage made up of the photographs that i have in my collection.  In this way I will start to combine several images into one finished work.  And this will leave me with a different line of original work.  And less individual photographs. At the same time I can still market the photographs online and print them out individually to customers on demand.

V36. Planning the Outreach to Company Patrons and Friends?

I continue my new project called Art as a Present.  First of all I have started a facebook page for this purpose (go to https:// www.facebook.com/ArtasaPresent /).  I will be mailing Art Fabian Company Patrons and Friends  presents from a Company collection.  Maybe it will be an original artwork on a card through the regular mail.  Or perhaps a four by six inch photograph from the Valuable Gallery collection.  Some people will get an online work update from  the company that will feature a private selection of prints chosen for that month. It is not the most pleasant feeling to give out artwork but since I am not selling at least the works will circulate  instead of staying hidden.  Perhaps this feeling of unpleasantness is for the better.  I have all the documents from my parents estate comfortably installed in the Rose Studio. So there is really no reason to mail valuable works of art for no cost at all. (as a matter of fact I p...

VG34. Happy Spring to everyone!

Tomorrow is the first day of spring. Unlike the other seasons of the Valuable Gallery we will not be starting a new seasonal exhibit.  Instead we are going to concentrate on refining one permanent collection.   The Corridor Gallery is to inspire calm and direction since the exhibition pieces are in a corridor which is on the way to somewhere. It is a gallery that encourages one to feel confidence as it leads the person back to their own space. I have been finishing some drawings from my Madonna on the Outside Collection. This inspires me to add a few black and white tableaus to the Blue Corridor Gallery.  You can own some of the pieces that been created by myself (including some from the Valuable Gallery).  Go to www.treasuregallery.blogspot.ca and see the selection. by Kathy Vivian Fabian kfabian.kathynotes@gmail.com

VG33. Finishing the Artwork Series of the Madonna Collection. by Kathy Vivian Fabian

February 14, 2016 (To see how I am working on these sketches scroll down to the Saturday morning section of this article) I had been doing a fair amount of creative work in the week so Saturday I did a lot of organizing. The Art Moi Inventory app is getting easier to use. This encouraged me to really start finishing the Madonna Collection.  The Madonna Collection is a series of photographs and sketches that span several decades.  The Madonna Artworks were created in the 1980's but were never finished.  The Madonna photographs are being created right now.  This is what I was working on during the week. The Madonna artworks are mostly in black and white and were created during the musical era of Blondie and Madonna. This is when the two stunning women were much in the limelight.  They were also very much competitive in both music and physical appearance.  This is also a time when I decided to follow the art scene full time. It was my pleasure to f...

VG30 New Collage? Just one thing before I start....

It all started when I wanted to change my small square image for the Winter Exhibition.  the task was supposed to take five minutes.  I would make a fresh collage.  Everything was prepared.  And just scoot the thing in.  All done. Unfortunately it did not turn out that way. First of all there was a Holiday Season decoration still installed on the picture.  So that had to come off.  And if I was going to take it off I had to film it.  This work was in the Rose Studio and the ornament was not just any ornament, it was chandelier inspired with real chandelier crystal integrated into it.  So I had to take a picture of it. And if I had to take a picture of it then I had to install the proper set up to that the light and shadows worked.  And if I took the trouble to do that then maybe I should film All the other ornaments from the Holidays.  And before I did that, I had to finish some with some new crystals that I had gotten. And w...

VG29 Introducing Inner City Spirits into the Winter Space

The Magic Space Holiday Exhibit is over and Val Gal starts the Winter Exhibit. Val Gal is not just a simple gallery.  It is a gallery in a women's residence that emphasizes rest and inspiration. So all of the images are created to create a sense of calm and good feeling. Last year the popular series of "Creative Muses" appeared on site. These magical muses start to appear in regular neighborhood scenes.  They are created from the positive energy a busy neighborhood gives out when work is being done.  When I introduced the Creative Muses I was banking on the tendency of the women in this residence to escape into the world of film, news, movies and fantasies.  I imagined that they would love to meet some of the creatures that populate the popular film for example. (Like a runway model for example). This week the winter exhibition heralds in a new kind of spirit of industry.  These are "ghostly" apparitions that like  the muses before them, visit the sma...

vg28 Chocolate Rain and Putting Away the Dog

Studio Work Saturday: Morning Saturday I usually go thrifting but the store was closed that day.  I had gone to the pharmacy on Boxing Day and the place was in a chocolate frenzy.  The chocolate had been slashed to half price and people were running around with tons of chocolate.  There were lots of people and they were spending like crazy.  So much chocolate did some customers have, I thought they would die soon from chocolate overdose. I had gone to the pharmacy for a completely other reason. I just watched the people go for the candy and left. But the experience haunted me.  I had met Jane Fonda pretty recently and she had had one of her most lavish dreams granted.  Just like me, she was told to eat chocolates when she had no energy.  And like me, because chocolates make you fat, she bought the cheapest chocolates she could find. I don't meet her often. But when I met her again she said when it comes to chocolates quality does matter too. Sh...

V24. Sparkling for the Celebrations. New Vintage Jewelry

Superstitious?  What kind of rituals do you follow for good luck?  For myself, I like to take advantage of special times to see if I can reap good fortune.  For example, if I have something important to organize I am likely to do it on a Holiday or on Sunday. So planning this week's Studio work was a no brainer.  I had recently received a large amount of old jewelry from an estate. The choicer pieces had long gone and these were left.  They were supposed to be unsellable.  So I asked how they were organized. I said if you give almost them to me, I will organize them for you in the proper way.  But I was given them instead. The owner felt they were just cluttering up the house.  Luckily I have my jewelry collection. To get them they had to be quickly boxed and taken off the premises.  But once I brought them home, there was no time to organize them anymore because of the Holiday Preparations.  So this Saturday I took some time to c...

V22. the Holiday Season. Furiously

Hello dear Readers, Coping with Holiday Frenzy What do you to pamper yourself when the Holiday frenzy starts ? I went for a long walk to pick up some containers for my external hard drives.  You see I am into organizing and I want to have all my files easily accessible by the time the Holiday season is over.  As luck would have it by the time I was half way back to the metro I felt really tired.  Luckily there was a good restaurant, Nickels right at the corner.  I did the unthinkable.  Instead of getting some nuts and a drink from the grocery store I regaled myself on a French onion soup before I hit the metro.  It tasted so good I didn't even think it was expensive.  At the holiday season I always get tired in transit so I put away a little extra cash for food. It makes it a lot nicer. Saturday Studio Work: Speaking of the Holidays I am doing a lot of celebrating.  This week the Rose Studio is open to Art Fabi...

VG21. Presenting Magic Space 2015. Just for the Holiday Season.

It didn't look like I would be able to do it on time.  But I got all the work hung for the Holiday Season Exhibit and the Holiday Season Ornaments all done as well.  To celebrate I thought I would lead my online friends like you on a tour of the Val Gal as it looks today. The film starts a little bit too dark but don't worry.  As you go down the corridor with me you will be able to see more clearly how Val Gal is decorated for this magical time. Whew! That's done.  And now I can get on with the rest of the preparations.  There is still a lot of work to be done with the Gift Atelier and the Art Fabian Company Bazaar for Patrons and Friends. Its nice to  be able to work in a place that fits the fun and the work that I have at this season. So I invite you to sit down and take a visit to the Val Gal with the video below:

V20.The Holidays are Coming. Did You Hear Me?

Hello Dear Friends, The Holiday Season Approaches.  And there is much to do in Val Gal  Valuable Gallery). And despite having a little bit of trouble getting this video online (and the lightbulb glowing on the right ear) stuff is getting done. We have a Gift Atelier Bazaar for company friends and patrons.  We have a new Magic Space Exhibit specially for the Holidays.  And there has been an exciting discovery of some lost Kathy Fabian Artwork recently.  Lots of new drawings and paintings are coming in to Val Gal and have to be properly stored. Val Gal is really anxious to give as many presents as possible to company patrons and friends so if you want to have a gift from the Atelier Bazaar, please send the reason why you should have one and your email address to kfabian.kathynotes@gmail.com or post it at www.facebook.com/theartfabiancompany.
